The following is one of our members
experience during September to December 2002 in this district:
During this trip I have the opportunity to visit 14 schools. The activities
of the SPDC trooops are always changing and for sure this is the 'free
fire zone' against our people. They consider our people as animals and
kill us no matter how old the villager is. Man or woman doesn't matter.
On October 29, 2002 SPDC entered Kaw Po Khi village and shot and injured
three year old Naw Hsa Bee. Her older sister rescued her and they hid
in the jungle all night. Their family were captured and there is no report
yet about them.
On 19-11-2002 in Kyaw Ker Khee village, 10 students and 1 teacher were
taken away by SPDC and we still don't know about them. Everywhere I go
I see the SPDC destoying our school materials and stealing our food and
killing our animals. Another thing was when I visited Blay Blaw Soe primary
school, a school teacher named Naw Htoe Htoe explained how SPDC soldiers
abused her because she came to the village to work in the school. They
accused her of working with the rebel group. Her life is in danger.
All of Karen schools in this
district are 30 minutes to 1 day walk from SPDC outposts. Since June 2002,
KTWG's Education Fund provided
49,000 Baht for schools in this district. Click
