Our 5 members from this district visited 104 schools from September to December 2002. All of them noted a signifigant increase in SPDC presence throughout the district, although most notably in Luthaw township. At 2pm on October 26 in Cha Leh Deu village, SPDC arrived. Villagers attempted to flee but were caught by the SPDC soldiers. The women an children were released but 23 men were taken away to be used as porters. There whereabouts are still unkown. On October 30 in Kler The Ko village, our member was helping the community harvest. At 3:30 an SPDC battalion ambushed the villagers as they worked in the field, killing one man, Saw Ree Wah (36), and wounding 4 others. One of the wounded was a 7 year old student, Naw Mu Deh Wah, who was caring for her younger brother while her parents harvested. The increased military presence has further strained community life and has meant longer more frequent school closures.

In June 2002, KTWG's Education Fund provided 166,000 Baht for schools in this district. Education officers walked with our MTT to schools throughout the district distributing funds and negotiating the use of these funds with each community. Below, you will find the distribution reports from Luthaw and Dwe Lo townships. We are very sad to report that the education officer from Bu Tho died suddenly during the KEF distribution process. The report from this township (Ton Baars and Mario's friend funds) will be available soon. Click here to view the KEF distribution report for 2002.

In May 2003, our education fund provied 200,000 Baht to Mutraw district schools. Click here for the June 2003 distribution report.
